So, we are a border state. Some of us work in places were we contact people who travel. Washing hands is said to be the number 1 defense against this. Not touching your face, eyes or nose is another. Maybe carry around a bottle of germ killer?? Any other helpful suggestions?

Yes. That list of things you mentioned is standard to control the spread of any germs and is good hygiene. Unfortunately, not everyone agrees or cares. Here are some other tips: -Use a paper towel to turn off water faucets after washing hands (the same germs you just washed off PLUS everyone else's will be on there.) -Use a paper towel to open public restroom doors if they do not push open. Let's face it, not everyone washes their hands after visiting this room. It does no good to do the above mentioned step and then open the door. -Wash your hands with warm soap and water for about 30 seconds or sing "Happy Birthday" to yourself, this is about the needed time. Be sure to wash about three inches above your wrists, too. ;D -Don't touch your hair and then touch your food or face. It is exposed to many germs that you cannot wash off while out and about. -Be weary of public condiment bottles such as ketchup or salt and pepper shakers. Again, not everyone washes their hands prior to eating and those germs end of on the most used and unwashed surfaces at a dining table. Want more?

I wasnt ever really worried about this since a common cold is still uncureable and you can get that at a trip to the grocery store.

Hey - I am not saying I am not worried. Just saying you can catch ANYTHING ANYWHERE and it can hurt you. We need to focus on over all health wellness for everything and not just the cold or the swine flu because it is big in the news. Just because we havent been plastered with it from wall to wall in the media doesnt mean it isnt a true threat no matter how small or big. Think about that one.

Yes, we should be cautious of everything and not just the latest craze. Cleanliness and good hygiene help control a lot of what could get spread around.
People don't realize what is really out there, everywhere that you are touching... keyboards, cell phones, doors, faucets... just because you washed your hands doesn't mean the person before you did.

What ever happened to the SWINE flu? Drug companies made a boat load of money from this scare tactic.
