I saw on the news today that salary cuts are becoming more and more popular to employers and employees versus total job loss.
It has to be rough, but some money is better than no money.
This lady said that if you are one who is worried about losing your job to consider going to your employer, making the offer for less money, but remembering to fight for yourself, too. She recommended asking for less hours or something else to make up the difference for you personally.
It is an interesting idea. That way, everyone wins, kind of.

My work went to mandatory 32 hour work weeks to keep jobs. It is a loss in money but it is better than having no job at all.

We think a pay cut is much better than a job loss. It is awful for us to think of all those who are without a job today because of this mess, but it is also good to know that there are those out there on both sides that are willing to accept the cut and keep the jobs in place. Eventually this will get better and keeping that job now at a lesser pay will allow the increase to come back in the long run without any loss of potential benefits. Win, win if you ask us.

Unfortunately most the people who make the decision of pay cuts are at the top and don't care or don't remember what it is like to be at the bottom worrying about their jobs. They just want to keep making the big money so it is the little guy that the bottom at lose their job or take the pay cut.
Greed will the downfall of American.

Greed has been the downfall of many civilizations throughout history. By wanting and taking more and more, those who aspire to have it without truly working for it haven't always been very sucessful in the long run. Their truimph comes with great cost. Do you remember the old saying, "Those we don't know their history..."

... "are doomed to repeat it." I just took a cut in hours, too, from five to four work days. For over a year almost business hours have been shortened, now each one who works has been asked to take a mandatory day off without pay. I am okay with it because it is designed to help everyone keep a job and my place of employment's doors opened. Can I afford it? Not really, but I won't be selfish and greedy and demand to keep all my hours at the expense of another.

Yes, we did what we had to do, it should never be all or nothing, everyone has to give a little.

So check this out. They've been trimming days from people's schedules where I work at, like is happening in a lot of places right? All right, we can all stomach that instead of everyone loosing their jobs. ;D So this one guy has been working here bout a year. He got a day trimmed from his schedule, then they turned around and gave him a raise. He now works less than most of us and makes as much or more than the rest of us. Ok fine. But then,, he tells us about it. What about us??? Where's my raise?? What about all these people you just cut??? This is not good operational management, I think.

Perhaps that is a prime example of the messes that are made on our behalf. The logic makes perfect sense. RIGHT.

Greed helps no one in the long run.

I lost my job due to the economy. My new job pays alot less. A job is a job and it makes me feel better about myself to work for what I have even if it is less than what I used to make and working a shift I do not like.

That is unfortunate - thank goodness you are at least working. Some income that is worked for is better than no income.
Hang in there, things will bet better.

I have thought about this a lot. I still think it would be okay if the company or whatever had a real need to cut it's expences and not just to further it's profits. How do you know though?

I have taken a pay cut to keep my job. I have a question, not quite on topic but it is financial. Why is the government asking for a higher debt ceiling so they don't default on their "bills" but we all suffer everyday with foreclosures, going bankrupt and past due on our bills. Who increases are debt ceiling so we don't default? Think about that one. Welcome to our economy since 2008 - ?.

More trimming and moving area's around, looks like lay offs are coming if things don't change.
Obama, take a look around, your process of change is not working for America, or is it?
