Recently my daughter graduated from high school and received several scholarships to attend a local community college. She excelled in high school and wanted more for herself and her future and a new beginning. During the college enrollment process she applied for a work-study job at the school. About a week later she learned that she got the job and would be working in the cafeteria.
I am only guessing that someone at the top later reviewed her application and she was told that her parents make to much money and that the job was meant for low-income families, therefore she would not qualify for or get the job.
My daughter spent hours working on that application and was excited about the opportunity to be independent and have and to earn her own money. I reviewed it with he before she turned it, it was both accurate and a complete history of what she had accomplished in her past and hoped to accomplish in her future.
I feel the job should go to the most qualified applicant weather it be my daughter or someone else’s daughter or son. What happened in this case is an example of what is wrong with our society today, it is full of handouts, weather you qualify for something or not it is just given to you.
What happened to the desire to further one’s self in America and not depends on or be given hand-outs just because. My daughter qualified for and got the job but was not poor enough to keep it. Maybe I should quit my job for my daughter to better her own future, it seems to be the new American way of life.

WOW. That is quite the unnerving story. So sad! What is this world coming to?

Apparently you have to be poor to work there, but if you don't have a job aren't you going to be poor soon, too? That is almost discrimination.

I worked there, at the same school I think -- I wasn't that poor, I thought? Did their policies change? That is so stupid, and I agree with KBS -- if you are not poor now, you will be when you don't have a job. Its stupid when they'd rather dish money out for free, or give it to some lazy person who is not qualified than someone who is willing and qualified.

Unfortunately this has become a very popular way of doing things. PC. Not what is right. Look around and you will see what we mean.
